Race Information

The City of Joondalup Mullaloo Mile is the penultimate swim in the WOW Swims Series, ‘the community swim series for all’, and offers a range of distances to suit everyone. WOW Swims are designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities to experience the thrill of open water swimming in a range of settings and over a variety of distances, and to encourage participation in community events as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Price

The 400m course provides the perfect opportunity for anyone to give open water swimming a try! Entrants must be at least nine years of age to compete in this course.

400m Early Bird (closes at midnight on the 19th Feb): $10
400m Standard (closes at midday on the 28th Feb): $15
400m On the Day (available on the day from 6:30am): $20 – CASH ONLY

The 800m course if for those who are a bit more confident at open water swimming and are at least ten years of age.

800m Early Bird (closes at midnight on the 19th Feb): $25
800m Standard (closes at midday on the 28th Feb): $30
800m On the Day (available on the day from 6:30am): $35 – CASH ONLY

Our 1600m course consists of two waves: the LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships wave and a regular entry wave. Competitors for the LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships wave must be a current member of a Masters Swimming WA club. Competitors for the regular entry wave must be at least eleven years of age.

Our 3200m course is the longest in Mullaloo Mile! Swimmers must be at least twelve years of age and confident in open water swimming.

Age Requirements

The minimum age for acceptance is:
– 9 years of age for the 400m ‘Try-It’ swim
– 10 years of age for the 800m swim
– 11 years of age for the 1600m swim
– 12 years of age for the 3200m swim

All age categories will be determined based on age on the day (ie. 29/02/2020). Please note that parents or guardians of swimmers under the age of 18 must sign an Event Waiver and Terms form for all entrants.

Swimmers aged 9 must be accompanied in the 400m swim by a chaperone aged 18 or over.

FAQ’s

What is the difference between the 1600m LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Chamionships wave and the 1600m Public wave?

While the 1600m Course is open to everyone, we have incorporated a State Championship into the event. If you are a Masters Swimming Club member, you can compete in our State Championships. The winner of the LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships will be announced on the day.

To become a Masters Club Member and qualify to compete in this wave, please find your local club on the Masters Swimming WA website.

Please note that the swimwear requirements for the LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships require you to comply with FINA Swimwear regulations. Please see Section 4 – Criteria for the appropriate swimwear rules.

What are the swimwear requirements?

400m Try-It, 800m, 1600m Public, and 3200m
Event issued race caps must be worn on swimmers’ heads at all times during the race. Wetsuits may be worn but swimmers wearing wetsuits are not eligible to win prizes. Other swimwear does not have any specific regulations. For the complete list or requirements including jewelry and tracking devices, please see the WOW Swims website.

1600m LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships
The LiveLighter Masters Swimming WA State Championships require compliance with FINA Swimwear regulations. Please see Section 4 – Criteria for the appropriate swimwear rules.

What are the rules for the swim?

Are there time limits for the event?

There is a designated time limit of 115 minutes from the time of the 3200m wave start. This allows plenty of time for swimmers of all ages and fitness to finish their course.

What is included in my entry fee?

The entry fee covers all insurance, safety components, a Mullaloo Mile swim cap, water safety, fruit, water, and electronic timing.

Can I bring my own paddler?

You cannot bring your own paddler but there will be a large number of event paddlers present for water safety on the day.

What if I have mobility issues?

WOW Swims prides itself on being an inclusive swim for all participants. If you have mobility issues, you can simply pass your timing device to a marshal when finishing the swim and they will take it over the timing mat to complete your race.
